Meeting Recaps & Takeaways

This week at Missouri S&T was packed with significant meetings and Homecoming events that advanced both academic and community initiatives.

On Monday, the Taskforce Meeting on Teaching Communication addressed key issues such as identifying support, student feedback, and teaching demonstrations, with campus leaders and faculty in attendance. Later, the Harry William Lee Porth Distinguished Lecture featured Dede Willis, who discussed the commercialization of university life science innovations.

Tuesday’s Leadership Team Meeting focused on student success, with updates on enrollment, admissions procedures, and faculty placement for retention improvement.

Wednesday Mizzou hosted the Chiefs of Staff Panel, where university and UM System Chiefs of Staff, engaged in discussions on leadership in higher education. The day also featured an Executive Forum on strategic planning for the university, with participants brainstorming ways to align student support efforts with the campus’s academic rigor. Additionally, a visitation was held for Gregory Adams, paying tribute to his lasting contributions to the Rolla and Missouri S&T community.

Thursday was highlighted by the Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering in Medicine Meeting and a Faculty Senate Meeting, both contributing to collaborative growth in academics and research. The Kummer Institute Foundation Board also held a reception and dinner.

On Friday, the Kummer Institute Foundation Board continued its meeting, alongside the Academy of Engineering Management gathering and a welcome center beam-signing ceremony. These events were followed by the Miner Alumni Association’s Legends Luncheon, with the day concluding with James O. Stoffer Lecture in Chemistry.

Saturday featured a Homecoming tailgate, football game, and the Miner Alumni Association’s Awards Dinner, rounding out a week full of impactful engagements at Missouri S&T.

Summary: Missouri S&T has long thrived by anticipating and addressing societal needs, shaping and being shaped by the world around it for over 150 years. From its origins as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (MSM) to its current identity, the university has made key decisions that reflect its focus on problem-solving and innovation. A new defining moment has arrived with the launch of a $200 million medical engineering and life sciences initiative, which will expand the university’s bio-related programs, including new degrees in biomedical engineering and bioengineering. S&T’s history of breakthroughs continues to guide its future, with increasing health-related research funding and student interest in biological sciences.
